Bespoke Engineering: AC160L-12 16t at 1200mm becomes 16t at 2500mm

In the metals logistics sector, handling exceptionally long and heavy loads has always been a complex challenge. To handle heavy loads with centres of gravity situated far forward, companies are forced to use colossal machines. However, increasing the size of the forklift inevitably comes up against the physical limitations of factory layouts, reducing manoeuvrability in storage aisles and compromising the plant’s overall efficiency.

It is against this backdrop that one of our extraordinary bespoke projects comes into play, recently developed for a leading partner in the Netherlands. The client’s request presented an extreme engineering challenge: to handle 16-tonne loads with an exceptionally forward centre of gravity of 2,500 mm in complete safety, using special 4,500 mm forks, whilst avoiding any increase in the vehicle’s physical dimensions so as not to compromise flexibility within existing workspaces.

Instead of taking the easy route — namely, widening the chassis and wheelbase — our Technical Department rose to the challenge of pushing the vehicle’s structure to its limits. Starting with our AC160L-12 120V model — a 16-tonne truck with a centre of gravity of 1,200 mm and a battery voltage of 120V — we carried out a thorough structural redesign.

Thanks to the use of special steels with an extremely high stress limit and the meticulous optimisation of the weight distribution and mast geometry, we have managed to achieve a true technological miracle: maintaining the exact same external dimensions as the base model, whilst ensuring a residual load capacity exactly equal to the nominal capacity.

The result is an exceptional, zero-emission forklift, powered by 120V with liquid cooling and a lithium battery, capable of manoeuvring in the same spaces as a standard forklift but with significantly superior performance.

This project perfectly encapsulates our corporate philosophy: not to adapt the customer’s work to the limitations of a standard machine, but to shape technology to provide a bespoke tool capable of redefining the standards of productivity and safety.
